The Importance of a Posting Schedule

This week I want to talk to you about having a posting schedule. It’s important to have a posting schedule for your social medias for a number of reasons. These reasons can include but are not limited to the algorithm will favor you, your following and customer know what to expect, easier control for your social media marketing managers or whoever runs your socials, a clean predictable flow of information and posts on your profile, etc. Long story short, a posting schedule helps you more easily and efficiently manage and maintain your social medias for the best outcome and possible profit.

The most important of these, I think, is the algorithm on a given platform. The algorithm is an equation of different metrics that determine how well your post will be favored. It’s a computer-generated process or set of rules that is constantly learning and adapting over time to fit the interests of society and your followers. This affects your reach and how many people will see your post and business page. The more consistent you are with a posting schedule, the more the algorithm is likely to favor you. If you keep a consistent schedule the algorithm can count on you to maintain your position on the profile and thus will reward you for that. It doesn’t matter how often you post, just that you are posting consistently.

Your posting schedule, depending on your industry and platform can be anything like once a week, MWF, every day, or even three times a day at 8am, lunch time, and 5pm. You could post a motivational quote every Monday, a business update every Tuesday, a video every Wednesday, a product every Thursday and a blog every Friday or a number of different combinations. Whatever works best for you that you want to commit to and will be appropriate for your following. If you create a posting schedule and don’t like it, you can always change, just be aware your reach will go down until you consistently fall into this new routine.

If you don’t have a clue where to start for a posting schedule, check out your competitors or similar companies in your industry. Take note on when they post and what they post. Also take note on the likes, comments, and shares of these posts as well. Remember to not copy but rather to use the ideas and guidance of others then create posts unique to your company. If you don’t know where to get your content or other ideas from, Pinterest and common socials are good places to look for examples, quotes and some reusable content. Canva and Photoshop are good applications to create your own original content.
